Official WordPress Plugin For Lightroom

In a sign that it’s serious about making WordPress the best publishing platform for photographers, Automattic has released an export plugin for Adobe Lightroom that makes it easy to push photos directly from a Lightroom catalog into your WordPress media library.

The big benefit for photographers here is a simpler workflow when it comes to getting images into the WordPress media library – saving the the need to export from Lightroom and then upload images into WordPress manually.

If you use Lightroom as your digital asset management system this plugin is going to save you time but it’s not going to add images into  galleries or posts for you…

That said, you can use a plugin like PhotoPress to create image galleries on your WordPress site based on the keywords you apply to your images in Lightroom (see my ebook The Guide to WordPress for Photographers for more info on how to do that).

If you are a Lightroom user and frequently upload images into WordPress you are definitely going to want to give this plugin a try.

Woo Gets Acquired by Automattic

This week there was a great disturbance in the force. WooThemes, one of the largest businesses in the WordPress ecosystem was acquired by our friends at Automattic. You can read all the juicy details over at PostStatus.

Woo sells some great themes but is perhaps most well known for their ecomerce plugin WooCommerce (which we use here for selling The Guide to WordPress For Photographers). Seems that commerce expertise is what Automattic was after for it’s hosted website offering.

Not sure this will change anything in the short run, but I would expect to see some commerce features show up on sooner rather than later.

Congrats to the Woo Team!
